Salem, Ohio

In July 2020, Bishop Tracy Smith Malone appointed Rev. Steve Sullivan to be the pastor of First United Methodist Church.  Pastor Steve has been in ministry for 33 years, beginning in 1986 with three years as the youth director for the Wooster Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).  After taking a year away from ministry to begin seminary, Pastor Steve began serving as a pastor in the United Methodist Church in 1990.  He has served churches in Hillsboro, Cambridge, Uhrichsville, Rocky River, New Concord, Coshocton, Loudonville and Lakeville before coming to Salem.

Pastor Steve received a Bachelor Degree in Applied Mathematics and Computer Science from Kent State University.  He did his seminary work at Ashbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky, where he earned his Master of Divinity degree.  Pastor Steve has been involved in the East Ohio Conference's Healthy Church Initiative, where he has led Pastoral Leadership Development Classes.  These classes are designed to equip pastors to lead churches in a changing society without compromising the Gospel message.

Pastor Steve met his wife, Sherri, when they were children attending the same United Methodist Church.  They were married in 1991.
